La galleria ProjectB presenta dal 9 maggio al 29 giugno 2012 nel suo spazio di Via Borgonuovo 3 a Milano, A momentary lapse of reason, la prima personale in Italia dell’artista messicano Bosco Sodi.
A momentary lapse of reason, una momentanea perdita di ragione, è la sensazione che l’artista vorrebbe che le sue opere suscitassero nel visitatore, portandolo a una nuova percezione dell’arte, come reazione alla matericità e alle vibrazioni dei colori come il rosa, il rosso e il blu, percepite prima dagli occhi, poi dal cervello fino ad arrivare al cuore e alla memoria.
In mostra sei opere di grandi dimensioni realizzate con la cifra pittorica che distingue l’opera di Sodi: l’utilizzo di materiali organici come pigmento puro, segatura, polpa di legno, fibre naturali, acqua, e colla. I suoi lavori sono, infatti, stratificazioni di materiali organici usati per la loro imprevedibilità e per l’energia che emanano; l’effetto non si può controllare e la forma che assumono dipende dalle proprietà intrinseche della materia, che è la stessa di cui è composto l’essere umano che viene solo trasformata.
Ciò che colpisce è il rilievo scultoreo delle sue tele: ognuna realizzata a mano su telaio, iniziata e terminata nel corso di uno o due giorni, ininterrottamente, come un atto performativo. Il risultato è una sorta di scultura-pittura, con centinaia di piccole crepe e fessure più grandi, quasi a suddividere la superficie terrestre.
Sodi è sempre alla ricerca di un atto fisico nel dipingere che permetta uno scambio di energie tra l’opera e l’artista. Lui si fa governare dalle leggi universali della materia - il cambiamento climatico, l'altitudine di una città e le componenti dell’acqua - ispirandosi alla natura e lasciando spazio alle imperfezioni e all’arbitrarietà, l’inaspettato e il casuale.
Le sue opere svelano la bellezza dell’imperfezione senza dimenticare che uno degli aspetti più importanti dell’arte è la seduzione.
Bosco Sodi è nato a Mexico City nel 1970 e lavora tra New York, Berlino, Barcellona, e Città del Messico.

ProjectB gallery presents at its space in Via Borgonuovo, 3 in Milan, A momentary lapse of reason, the first Italian solo show of the Mexican artist Bosco Sodi.
A momentary lapse of reason is the reaction the artist would like to provoke in the viewer, leading him into a new art perception, as a reaction to the material and the vibrations of colours like pink, red and blue, that are perceived from the eyes, travel through the brain and, ultimately, touch our heart and memory.
The show is centred on six large paintings realized with the artist’s typical style: the employment of organic materials as pure pigment, sawdust, wood pulp, natural fibers, water and glue. The works are stratifications of organic materials used for their unpredictability and for the energy they exude. The effect is out of control and the final shape depends on the inner properties of the matter. The sculptural relief of these works strikes viewers. The process takes one or two days: each work is hand-made on a frame, in a continuous artistic gesture, similarly to a performance. The result is a sort of ‘sculpted painting’, criss-crossed by a myriad of minuscule fissures and cracks, that looks like the Earth’s skin soil fragmentation.
Bosco Sodi’s research has always looked to the physical side of art, searching for a channel where energy can flow between the artist and his work. He decided to let the universal laws govern his work: the changing climate, the altitude of an atelier, and the components of a local drop of water influence the final result. He takes inspiration by nature and leaves space to the imperfections the arbitrariness of the unexpected, and the haphazard.
His work reveals the beauty of imperfection without forgetting that one of the most important aspects of art is the seduction. Bosco Sodi was born in Mexico City in 1970 and works between New York, Berlin, Barcelona and Mexico City. Among his most recent exhibitions there are a solo show at the Bronx Museum of the Arts, where he presented the monumental work Pangea and the solo show at the Pace Gallery in New York. His works are included into important private and public collections: IBM Building, New York; De La Cruz collection, Puerto Rico; Jumex Collection, Mexico DF; the Godia Foundation, Barcelona; and at the MIAAO, the International Museum of applied art, Turin.
